Mir Castle is one of the most important tourist attractions in Belarus, an outstanding defensive structure of the XVI century, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

It is located in the village of Mir in the Grodno region of Belarus.

The earliest buildings are made in the Gothic style and belong to the XVI century. This Belarusian castle was founded at the beginning of the 16th century by Prince Ilich.

Nicholas Radziwill In 1568, the castle passed into the possession of Nicholas Radziwill, who completed it in the Renaissance style.

A three-story palace was erected along the eastern and northern walls of the castle. Around earthen ramparts were constructed with bastions at the corners and a moat. In the northern part, there is an Italian-style garden. An artificial lake was created in the south.

During the Napoleonic Wars, the castle was severely damaged and desolate for over a century.

Nikolai Svyatopolk-Mirsky Still in the hands of the wealthy Radziwill family, it was restored at the beginning of the 19th century and sold to Nikolai Svyatopolk-Mirsky in 1895. His son began the restoration of the castle, which took place under the direction of the architect Theodor Burshe.

After the war, those locals whose houses were destroyed during the war lived in the castle. Then there was a military garrison.

In 2000, UNESCO included the Mir Castle on the World Cultural and Natural Heritage List.
