Novogrudok is a historic city in the Grodno region of Belarus, located on the banks of the Shchara River. The city has a rich history dating back to the 11th century and has been an important cultural and political center in the region for centuries.

According to historical records, Novogrudok was founded in the early 11th century as a fortified town of the Baltic tribe of the Krivichi. In the 13th century, the city became the capital of the independent Duchy of Novogrudok, which was ruled by the Gediminas dynasty of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

As a tourist myself, I was eager to explore everything that this city had to offer. So, I set out on a journey to discover the hidden gems of Grodno.

There are only three such channels in the world: Caledonian in Great Britain, Gotha channel in Sweden, and Augustow, located in Poland and Belarus.


A waterway with a total length of about 102 km begins from Lake Serva near the Polish Augustow and runs almost to Belarusian Grodno. Artificial channels 45 km long connected eleven rivers (35 km) and seven lakes (22 km).

The Augustow Canal is an outstanding hydro-technical structure of the 19th century, one of the largest canals in Europe, included in the preliminary UNESCO World Heritage List.

Mir Castle is one of the most important tourist attractions in Belarus, an outstanding defensive structure of the XVI century, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The construction of the castle began in the 16th century. 

Lubchansky castle was built in 1581 by tycoon Jan Kishka.

The castle is surrounded by earthen moats and the Neman River, which offers fantastic views from the castle.

Literally immediately, the castle becomes the property of the Radziwills, who are completing 3 towers, reinforcing the fortification characteristics of the castle.
In 1655, the Zaporozhye Cossacks, led by the hetman Zolotarenko, attacked the towers and destroyed the printing house located here, which since 1612 had been publishing books in Polish and Latin, on medicine, history, poetry, and religious literature.
