The Nesvizh palace and park complex with diverse architecture and the largest landscape park is a beautiful place in Belarus and one of the most popular attractions in the country.

Nesvizh Castle on lithographs of Napoleon Orda In the city of Nesvizh there is the most famous palace and castle complex in Belarus. Nesvizh is located in the Minsk region 112 km south-west of Minsk.

Nesvizh was named the cultural capital of Belarus in 2012. He became the third Belarusian city after Polotsk and Gomel, awarded this honorary title.

History of Nesvizh Castle


In the first half of the XVI century, the owner of Nesvizh became one of the richest Radziwills in Europe.

The first stone in the foundation of Nesvizh castle was laid in 1583. The castle was rebuilt many times and as a result acquired the appearance of a palace combining the features of many architectural styles:

baroque
rococo
classicism
neo-gothic
modernism


Karol Stanislav Pane Kahanku In 1764 and 1768, due to the anti-Russian position of the then owner of the castle, Karol Stanislav Radziwill, nicknamed Pane Kahanku Nesvizh, was occupied by Russian troops. All the castle's values ​​were confiscated, a library of 10 thousand books and an archive were taken to St. Petersburg.

At the end of the 19th century, one of the largest landscape parks in Europe was laid near Nesvizh Castle.

In 1939, when the Red Army entered Nesvizh and Soviet power was established, the Radziwills left the castle.

Nesvizh castle after  World War II, a sanatorium was located in the Nesvizh castle, the park became in disrepair.

In 1993, the National Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve was created in Nesvizh, which included the castle.

In 2005, the Nesvizh Palace and Park Complex was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
